Characteristic of the island's agricultural cultivation is the olive tree. There are over 1,500 trees covering thousands of acres of land but next in line is the production of grapes. The bulk of vineyard area on Samos is found in the west, north and central parts of the island. Because of the island's steep terrain many of her vineyards, especially those at high elevation, are planted on terraces. Vines occupy nearly every level of elevation from coastal locations to 800 meters.

Grapes are harvested steadily from the beginning of August to the beginning of October. The Samos Cooperative has the honor of presiding over Greece's best known and most highly regarded appellation. One of Greece's original cooperatives, Samos takes its role as guardian of the island's famous Muscat tradition very seriously. During the period leading up to and during the harvest the cooperative's oenological team can be found systematically evaluating its growers' vineyards. Final evaluation takes place at the loading dock at each of the two wineries, one at Vathi and the other at Karlovasi.

The aromatic muscat grape is characteristic of Samos and from it originates the sweet wine of Samos . The sweet wines are the Samos Vin Doux, Samos Grand Cru, Samos Anthemis and Samos Nectar. The dry white wines are the Samena, Samena Golden, Doryssa, Agiopelayitikos and Samena sec. The rose are Selana Rosé & Fokianos.

Crafts, superb jewelry and appealing ceramic items are just a few of the many creations of local craftsmen on sale in the souvenir shops. Karlovasi town center has many shops to choose from. In the port of Karlovasi, there are several tourist shops.

Other products include natural honey from herb and plant sources as thyme, pine, eucalyptus and poppies. There are also large quantities of therapeutic herbs.
